More about From the Seafloor to the Stars:

Embark on a journey through oceanographic time, aboard deep sea expeditions with the explorers and scientists who changed the course of history—people who sometimes went to extremes to not only push the boundaries of scientific knowledge, but also to advocate for a seat at the table.

Where other books have explored scientific ocean drilling using a strictly academic and historical lens, From the Seafloor to the Stars approaches the topic through a human lens. At its roots, the story of oceanography is as much about the science as it is about the tribulations, surprises, hunches, daring, and revelations of the scientists and modern-day explorers that have driven the field forward.

My experiences alongside scientists at sea, both on the JOIDES Resolution and other research vessels, opened my eyes to the curious, passionate, quirky minds behind the science. This inspired me to provide a peek under the covers of how experimental science is carried out in the most unforgiving environment. If there’s one thing that scientists prove time and again, it’s that challenges inspire creativity. Scientific discovery is an intricate dance between failure and success, brought to life by passion and perseverance, colored by continual curiosity. Those drawn to participate in this dance are driven by a steady rhythm of awe for our world, and the desire to know its secrets.

I hope you’ll join me on this journey through time, water, and space!
